As we live in a very open minded nation, the decision of how to dress is very much up to the individual. This creates categories or stereotypes for fashion to be based on the person’s personality. To main categories for girls are; Tomboy and Girly. A tomboy is a girl who exhibits characteristics or behaviors considered typical of a boy, including wearing masculine clothing and engaging in games and activities that are physical in nature and are considered in many cultures to be unfeminine or the domain of boys. Girly girl is a slang term for a girl or woman who chooses to dress and behave in an especially feminine style, such as wearing pink, using make-up, using perfume, dressing in skirts, dresses and blouses, and talking about relationships and other activities which are associated with the traditional gender role of a female.

Celebrity influence on Fashion

Mum’s classic fashion advice is being trumped by high profile celebs such as Kim Kardashians are now the trend setters. With 48% of women now saying that celebrities impact strongest on there personal style, it is clear that fashion is heavily influences by celebrities. The most influential celebrities (according to ‘dailymail.com’) are Kim Kardashian, Cara Delevigne, Victoria Beckham and the Duchess of Cambridge. Kim and Cara are believed to be influential because they are often spotted either front row or on the run way of major fashion shows. Victoria Beckham has become one of the worlds most successful designers, with many dresses on various red carpets. Meanwhile clothing and jewellery worn by the duchess of Cambridge frequently sell out, within hours of her being at a public event.

Style based on your Major

Your older cousins told you all about the best part of Uni—going to class in your pajamas. In fact, you discovered, many different fashions can be witnessed on any campus depending on your major. You’re likely to bump into these style stereotypes by the time the orientation week starts.
