Access to Fashion -- Part 2
Not only has developments in technology allowed us to access fashion through online shopping, but also brands that would otherwise be exclusive to certain countries if it wasn’t for the internet. These brands include higher end, designer clothing brands in addition to more affordable brands. Some of these overseas brands include ASOS, Boohoo and Topshop with 27% of Australian online purchases were from online, overseas retailers. In saying this, this development does not mean we have never had access to these brands but have easier access to them as well as seeing what products they have. Social media plays a major role in this in the sense that if they have an Instagram or Facebook page as a consumer all we have to do is follow their pages on these different platforms and we have instant access to these brands.

Access to Fashion -- Part 1
With new developments in technology it has become immensely easier to access fashion and clothing. One obvious 21st century phenomenon that allows this is online shopping. Online shopping came about in 1979 through the development of videotex, which lead the way for the growth of the concept of ‘teleshopping’ and became so popular due to its convenience. So much so that 41% of people who have access to the Internet have purchased something online in 2013. When online shopping the customer is able to look at multiple different styles of clothing and compare prices. Not only this but also due to the fact that technology has became such an necessity in today’s society it too has resulted in an increased use of online fashion sites. This is because advertising of a brand is easier and these brands promote discounts that can be used when shopping online giving the customer more of an incentive to shop online more so then in store.
