Genders and clothing

When wearing clothes nowadays, the labels women’s clothes and men’s clothes aren’t always taken so seriously. I know when I am looking for clothes majority of the time I much rather prefer to look on the men’s rack for a big comfy jumper or hoodie. There are many men’s clothes in which can be worn by both genders weather this be a jumper, a T-shirt, jacket or even accessories like hats. Not only can women wear men’s clothes, but also celebrities, such as Jayden Smith in recent times have been seen wearing women’s clothing. This demonstrates that nowadays gender labels in clothing don’t matter, what matters in fact is wearing what ever you feel comfortable in.

Trackpants - Socially Comfortable or Social Pariah

Track pants have been for as long as I can remember an essential part of my winter closet.
I sport the long crotched, for lack of a better term, tight ankled trackies, making them almost acceptable to be worn outside.

Though I have been caught to wear them on the midnight Maccas run, or quick stop at Woolies, I have for the most part refrained from enjoying the comfort of such pants outside of my own bedroom. I wonder why they cannot be a universally accepted outer wear whilst maintaining their elusive comfort that all other pants just seem to lack. How I long for a day where I can rock up to MacUni in my trackies and Parka and just enjoy the comfort as I sit through my hour long lectures.

Now, some people have been brave enough to wear these in public, and I truly respect them for caring more for there comfort than their social status because whenever I am caught in these bad boys I seem to cop the social punishment for enjoying the comfort of non-casual pants outside my own bedroom. How audacious I must be to enjoy these during my tutorials.

Perhaps one day they will be the societal norm for comfort, warmth and social status. But alas, for now they remain the comfort option that only the bold dare attempt.

Jerseys

We have all witnessed or sported the jersey of our favourite sport team at one point or another, whether it be while you are playing or simply going to the shops. But how often should we be wearing them?
We see all the time collections of NBA fans sporting a different jersey every week questioning which team their heart lies with, or an NRL fan wearing their colours to show faith and pride on game day.

Usually, the authentic jerseys can run from anywhere between $50 and $100, depending on the store, and a knock off can be a dime a dozen. Depending on your commitment and your wallet, the two can be indistinguishable, so the value of the authenticity lies with the wearer and the importance of it.

These are a universal signal of praise and faith in your favourite team, or perhaps the sign of ones passion for the sport, either way, the location of the wearer can say it all.

Beanies

As we further into the colder months of winter, the beanies are pulled from the closet and worn to mark the coming of the chilly weather. The simple head accessory makes for a cosy comfort, whilst maintain a cool look without the need to style your hair. They are cheap, easy and look good and can be worn only for a few exclusive months when the timing is right.
They come in a variety of sizes, styles and colours, and finding the right one can be tricky. Though, there are no lack of places to find these during Winter. They are cheap, and save time by not spending it on styling your hair, so be sure to grab one before the warm weather returns.

Pyjamas in public

Coming into the winter season it gets even harder to get out of bed and in addition, out of your warm pyjamas. We cant deny it, we’ve all thought about the day we could hop out of bed in our pajamas and continue the day like it’s normal but fear not this year the time has come, its Pajama's season; celebrities such as Rihanna, Selina Gomez and Jessica Alba are excelling in the fashion world, with their new extravagant clothing choice, recently wearing pajamas on the red carpet, so why not follow in their footsteps! So what to wear? Take a look at your pajama drawer; what’s your signature pajama? Satin, flannelette, cotton, silk maybe shorts, tops, onsies even tracksuits? It doesn’t matter what you wear as fashion has no limits! Stores such as peter alexander have been a big influence in pajamas and the way they’re portrayed, so why can’t we wear pajamas in public? They’re economical, comfortable and make you look good. So next time you wake up one winter morning take a minute to think about what to wear why not be bold? Why not be different? The pajama trend is now in and lets make it something big!
